Cookies not updating after a scan

CookieHub includes a built-in failsafe to protect against accidental loss of valid cookie data.

If a cookie scan detects significantly fewer cookies than in the previous scan, CookieHub will not automatically remove the missing cookies from your domain. Instead, the update is paused until you confirm the change.

This can happen if:

  • Major changes were made to your website’s tracking services.
  • Tracking scripts were temporarily unavailable during the scan.
  • Certain pages or services were blocked at the time of scanning.

When this failsafe is triggered, you’ll see a notification in your scan report email.

How to confirm and update cookies

If the reduced cookie count is correct and expected, you can manually approve the update:

  1. Go to Scans and click Details for the latest scan.
  2. Click Update cookies at the top of the page to confirm the change.
  3. The domain’s cookies will be updated to match the latest scan results.

Tip: If you didn’t expect a change in cookie count, review your website setup first to make sure all tracking services are working correctly before requesting a new scan.
