How to configure regions in GTM

In CookieHub version 2.8 and later, the GTM community template allows you to manage Google Consent Mode defaults directly in your Google Tag Manager container. This includes both global consent mode defaults and region-specific settings.

If your CookieHub domain uses multiple regions (for example, to comply with GDPR and US state privacy laws), you can define regional consent defaults in the CookieHub CMP tag.

Steps to configure region-specific consent defaults

  1. Log in to your Google Tag Manager account and open your container.
  2. In the left menu, go to Tags.
  3. Click the CookieHub CMP tag to edit it.

In the tag configuration panel, scroll to the Consent Mode Defaults section.

    • Configure the global defaults here.
    • These should match the consent settings for your default region in the CookieHub dashboard.
  4. Click Consent Mode Settings to expand the advanced configuration panel.

Under Region defaults, add regions that require different consent settings:

    • Enter the region code(s) in the Regions field as a comma-separated list.
      • Use two-letter ISO 3166 country codes (e.g., FR , DE )
      • For US states, use the format US-XX (e.g., US-CA for California).
  5. Define the consent defaults for each region according to the settings in your CookieHub dashboard.
  6. Save your changes and publish the container.

Where to find your region settings

In the CookieHub dashboard, click your domain and open the Implementation tab. You’ll find the details for consent defaults and region codes there. Use these values to match your GTM configuration.

CookieHub will now apply the correct Consent Mode defaults per region, ensuring compliance across multiple privacy frameworks.
