Understanding the TC string and consent signals
The TC string is a standardized consent signal used in TCF. It communicates a user’s consent preferences in a machine-readable format.
What the TC string contains
- TCF version number
- Consent choices for each processing purpose
- Vendor-level consent and legitimate interest preferences
- Details on special features and stacks
The TC string is encoded for efficiency and passed through the CMP API or directly to registered vendors. Vendors use it to determine whether they can process user data for specific purposes.
CookieHub generates and updates the TC string automatically when a user submits or changes their consent.
